Joins July 1st, community energy firm to launch supply business by end of year
30th June 2016 – The community energy company, Mongoose Energy, has appointed Mark Kenber as managing director of its energy supply division, which is set to launch later this year.
Kenber will join on July 1st from the highly influential non-profit The Climate Group. He has been the Climate Group’s CEO since 2011 and has played influential roles – including deputy CEO and International Policy Director – in the organisation for over decade.
During his time with the organisation he co-founded the successful Voluntary Carbon Standard and was an expert advisor to former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair on the joint policy initiative Breaking the Climate Deadlock (2008-2009).
Prior to working with the Climate Group, Mark was Senior Policy Officer for the WWF’s International Climate Change Programme, Director of Planning and Policy at Fundacion Natura in Ecuador and climate advisor to the Ecuadorian government.
In April, Mongoose announced its plans to launch a supply business by the end of the year.
Run under a unique ownership model for an energy supply company, Mongoose will deliver the majority of profits to its community benefit partner companies to invest in local projects that, for example, reduce energy poverty, improve energy efficiency, or enhance biodiversity.
Jan-Willem Bode, CEO of Mongoose said: “Mongoose is trying to change the very nature of how energy in the UK is owned and controlled. During his time leading the Climate Group, Mark repeatedly demonstrated his phenomenal ability to affect changes that lead to social and environmental improvements. I can think of no one better qualified than Mark to deliver our goal.”
Kenber said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to fundamentally change the way energy is generated, owned and supplied in the UK. In particular we can look at innovations in demand side management and doing really exciting things to help people generate and consume energy locally.”
Mongoose Energy’s supply division is also continuing to build its operational team and has announced Nick Johansen as operations director. Johansen has considerable experience in the energy sector, including operational leads at Good Energy and at OVO, which he helped take from inception to launch.
