Chief Executive Officer, Mongoose Energy
The CEO of Mongoose Energy must be a hands-on leader, with management and financial experience, and be the public face of one of the UK’s leading community energy companies.
The CEO of Mongoose Energy must be committed to the values of the community energy movement, and to driving the expansion of renewable community energy across the UK.
The CEO can be primarily based either in our offices near Chippenham or out of London.
The position will come with a competitive salary package.
Skills and Experience
The job of Mongoose CEO is highly demanding, involving long hours and travel, albeit within a flexible working environment.
The following is a list of skills and experience we consider essential, unless otherwise stated.
1. Leadership and Communication
A candidate must demonstrate their ability to lead, communicate with and inspire both the internal team and our external partners, from community energy groups to major social investors, commercial developers and finance providers.
A candidate must be a leader who leads by example – who does the work himself or herself – and not just someone who delegates and tells others what to do.
Internally, the candidate needs to show they can bring cohesion to a team that is multidisciplinary and based in 2 locations. He or she must have the management and communication skills with staff to get the very best out of our highly committed team, ensuring they are and feel involved.
Externally, the candidate must demonstrate communications, PR and marketing skills to a high standard.
The candidate must demonstrate the presence, energy and capability required to persuade both community investors, social financial institutions and other committed investors, to invest in Mongoose’s projects.
A candidate must show capacity and ambition to be a leader within the community energy movement, and be able and willing to engage with community energy groups, our core client group, and be a strong public speaker.
The next Mongoose CEO will have the ultimate responsibility for the cashflow, balance sheet and profit and loss account of a multi-million pound social enterprise, and therefore must be able to demonstrate significant financial skills and experience.
We would expect the next CEO to be able to manage and give strategic guidance to our existing strong financial team.
We have a strong preference for candidates who understand project finance and asset management. Experience of the financial challenges and requirements of community benefit groups within the energy sector will also be an advantage.
We have a strong preference for a candidate who can show the ability to create value in a constantly changing regulatory environment.
3. Sector Experience – Energy, Renewable Energy, Community Energy
While we will consider applications from outstanding candidates who currently have no renewable energy sector experience, such experience would be highly preferable.
We will certainly consider applications from outstanding candidates who have renewable energy experience, but who have no community energy experience. It is however essential that any candidate can demonstrate understanding of community energy and a personal commitment to community energy.
Within renewable energy, our current focus is solar power, and primarily roof- and ground-mounted solar electricity. However, we are expanding our project scope, particularly to onshore wind. Experience in either or both sectors would be an advantage.
Within energy more widely, we have ambitions to expand our renewable power options, to consider renewable heat and energy storage. We are increasingly active in the supply side, and are focused on the applications of new technologies and business models. Knowledge and experience in these areas would be an advantage.
Any candidate demonstrating knowledge and experience of the regulatory environment around electricity markets (as well as financial investment) will also be at an advantage.
